Budgie 10.10.1 is our first minor release of the Budgie 10.10 series. This release improves stability, fixes bugs, expands on our labwc support, and more!

#Features and Improvements

#Improved Stability

This release includes the following changes which should improve stability, particularly when switching to / from TTY and on monitor change events:

#Improved Labwc Integration: Sloppy window focus mode

While Budgie 10.9.x only supported click-to-focus and mouse modes (a limitation of our Mutter-based Magpie), Budgie 10.10 and our default use of the labwc compositor enables support for "sloppy" focus. We have integrated this into both Budgie Desktop Settings and our labwc bridge, enabling you to choose between three distinct window focus behaviors:
  1. Click-to-focus: Focuses and raises a window when you click it.
  2. Sloppy: Focuses a window when the cursor enters it, without raising it above others.
  3. Mouse: Focuses and raises a window as soon as the cursor enters the window area.
We will be continuing to improve on the "sloppy" focus mode in a future release, with expected changes to transient dialogs such as the Power Dialog to ensure they don't eagerly hide away on focus change when non-"Click-to-focus" modes are used.

#Improved Brightness Control

Our brightness handling has been reworked in Budgie 10.10.1 to no longer leverage GNOME Settings Daemon. Brightness management is now handled by our own budgie-brightness-helper, which manipulates brightness values through the common /sys/class/backlight interface. The keybinds we define in our vendor labwc rc.xml for the XF86MonBrightnessUp and XF86MonBrightnessDown keys have been updated. If you haven't changed the copied rc.xml, you can simply delete it from ~/.config/budgie-desktop/labwc and we will automatically create a new one the next time you login. Alternatively, simply update the keybinds with the following commands:

#Improved Wallpaper / Background scaling

Budgie 10.10 shipped with swaybg calls set to fill to avoid backgrounds getting skewed if they have a different aspect ratio than the respective output (display). Now, we will check the preferred placement mode / "style" defined from GnomeBG, mapping various "styles" to swaybg modes. We have made this configurable via the Background panel of Budgie Control Center.

#Bug Fixes and the Smaller Things

It wouldn't be a minor release if we didn't squash some bugs and do some small tweaks:
Supporting The Project
